I think I have finally found one (named Crochet Chart Software) that will do much of what I need. I have yet to use it fully but I wanted to give a heads up to anyone else who might be looking for just such a needful piece of software. And the best news of all is that it is now free (open-source) – and available for both Windows and Mac users. Stitch Works Software is a pattern design software that is available to the Windows users. However, it is also available on the Mac and Linux platforms making it a great to users on all platforms. What worries people most is how hard it is to use a program. Our programs are known for being easy to use, even for computer neophytes (newbies, beginners, whatever - we were all there once). At least our customers tell us so. We try very hard to make our programs that way.
